Trinidad offers some of the finest opportunities for light tackle fishing along California's stunning North Coast. Located just 30 miles north of Eureka, this area boasts a rugged coastline with miles of ideal conditions for rockfish habitat, making it a prime destination for fishing trips and coastal tours.
The 37' Miss Phyllis is fully equipped for sportfishing in the Trinidad area. With a spacious deck that accommodates up to 6 passengers and a large onboard cabin featuring a microwave and private bathroom, comfort is guaranteed!
The owner and captain, Sam Rotwein, has been licensed by the U.S. Coast Guard since 2021. We cater to all ages and skill levels, and our goal is to provide a fun and enjoyable fishing experience in Northern California.
All fishing gear is supplied, and we even clean the fish for you on the boat. Just bring along warm clothes and food if you desire, and don’t forget your camera to capture the memories!

Tom got his start fishing in Trinidad back in 1977. That is, unless you count the time he spent an entire day trout fishing by himself in the Tuolumne River in Yosemite at just 8 years old. Tom got his start fishing in Trinidad back in 1977. That is, unless you count the time he spent an entire day trout fishing by himself in the Tuolumne River in Yosemite at just 8 years old. When he returned to his parents' camp trailer, he learned that a search party had been looking for him for hours. According to Tom, it was worth the whipping!
Tom spent his teenage years and early twenties surfing the coast from Oregon to Acapulco. When he saw a couple of friends making their living fishing the ocean, he decided to give it a try and has been "hooked" ever since. In the late 1970s through the 1980s, Tom made his living commercial salmon trolling and crabbing on various boats with Trinidad serving as his home port. The trolling would take him away from home for months during the summer. In 1987, Tom purchased the Jumpin' Jack and quickly converted it into a six-passenger charter boat. Trinidad Bay Charters began booking trips in 1990. Tom served as the sole operator for the first ten years in business.
Sam Rotwein grew up in Trinidad, where he enjoyed fishing trips with his family. He has been professionally crabbing with his dad since 2017 and recently expanded his expertise by obtaining his captain's license in the spring of 2021. Now, he is excited to offer charter services and coastal tours in Northern California.
